Maternity Break

Surprise, surprise, another bun in the oven is making its way into the world in a matter of days… or weeks! Our third—and most likely final—baby rounds up the frantic baby years that started in 2017.

Has it been that long already?

In between diaper changes, growing pains, and sleepless nights, I managed to sort out my life in Germany; starting with my freelance marketing work and the necessary papers to make it happen. My family has also moved twice since, and now we’re back in the city where it all started. This time, I am in a much roomier flat with just the right amount of space to grant me my own home office. The cherry on top is we’re again in a city much better suited for a young and expanding family!

Now, I’m savoring my first day on a break from work to catch up on where I am in my personal life. The next couple of days, I’ll spend sorting out the newcomer’s belongings and my earthside kids’ clothes. I feel that at this stage in my life, I’m more in control of where I’m headed. Not that I have a 5-year roadmap—far from it—only now I have a better-formed picture of how I want this life to be like.

My to-do list, while never-ending, has at least some items ticked off. We’re also more settled now with our home life. The house is furnished and optimized according to our own use of it, and although the mess can’t be avoided, we have a day or so a month when everything looks picture-perfect.

It’s the home stretch, so the next few days in this in-between state until “the bomb explodes” will be all about trying to steady the nerves and be gracious in the wait.
